What is a chemistry degree?

The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry provides you with a rigorous and engaging education in the core areas of chemistry, blending theory with hands-on laboratory experience. The chemistry degree is offered as a standard degree and an American Chemical Society certified Bachelor of Science degree. You’ll have access to state-of-the-art labs where you’ll work with modern instrumentation and technology where you will have the opportunity to participate in scientific research. With a strong foundation in critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific communication, the chemistry degree equips you with the skills to excel in a variety of chemistry-related fields or progress into graduate studies.

  • CHEM332 - Physical Chemistry II
  • CHEM445 - Inorganic Chemistry

Chemistry Core Elective

Complete at least 1 courses in the following course sets:

  • Chemistry 300-level
  • OR Chemistry 400-level
  • One additional 3- or 4-credit course numbered above 300.

Chemistry Capstone classes

Complete ALL of the following courses:

  • CHEM378 - Chemistry Research
  • CHEM394 - Chemistry Seminar
  • CHEM476 - Senior Research & Capstone Report
  • OR CHEM478 - Senior Research & Thesis
  • CHEM494 - Communication in Chemistry
  • CHEM495 - Chemistry Senior Seminar

CHEM 378 must be taken for 1-3 credits depending on degree track. Students must register for at least 1 credit of CHEM 378 no later than the May Term of the junior year.

CHEM 478 is typically taken in the spring of the senior year.

Why should you minor in chemistry at Redlands?

The chemistry program at University of Redlands offers students the option to choose between two chemistry minors: general chemistry or environmental chemistry. Both minors are designed to provide you with basic expertise in chemistry, while the environmental chemistry minor additionally covers environmental topics. The requirements focus on the foundations and allow students who are specializing in another discipline to benefit from knowing more about the many facets and applications of chemistry.
